Elizabeth C. Kennedy Associate
Ms. Kennedy is an experienced litigator who focuses on securities litigation, appellate advocacy and intellectual property litigation. She joined Macht, Shapiro, Arato & Isserles LLP in March 2009.
Previously, Ms. Kennedy worked at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, where her practice focused on securities fraud litigation.
Ms. Kennedy clerked for the Hon. Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Representative matters include:
- Represented investment bank in major securities-fraud class action and numerous coordinated and consolidated cases. Co-authored appellate brief that led to the rejection of plaintiffs' theory of liability and ultimate victory for client.
- Represented major manufacturing company in lawsuit brought by class of retired employees alleging breach of contract and ERISA violations relating to company's obligation to provide retiree health insurance.
- Managed legal team that represented plaintiffs in civil rights class action challenging the constitutionality of Michigan's indigent criminal defense system. Plaintiffs successfully defeated the state's motion to dismiss and obtained class certification.
