Timothy A. Macht
Partner
Mr. Macht is an accomplished trial lawyer whose primary practice areas include media and entertainment litigation, general commercial litigation, white collar criminal defense, and strategic legal advising. He has represented major media and entertainment companies in high-stakes litigations involving copyright issues, contract claims, and assorted business torts. Mr. Macht has also developed a specialty in strategic legal counseling in which he helps in-house counsel assess the legal implications of critical business decisions. In addition, Mr. Macht, a former federal prosecutor, has substantial experience conducting corporate internal investigations, as well as representing individuals in connection with government investigations.
Prior to co-founding Macht, Shapiro, Arato & Isserles LLP in 2009, Mr. Macht built his own successful law practice, which he operated for five years. Before that, he was a litigation partner at a large New York City law firm. Between 1995 and 2002, Mr. Macht was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of New York, where he conducted dozens of complex investigations, successfully tried numerous cases, and won a number of commendations, including the Director's Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. He also worked as a Special Assistant and Counsel in the U.S. Justice Department's policy development office and clerked for U.S. District Judge Louis H. Pollak, the former Dean of the Yale and U. Penn Law Schools.

Represented Cablevision in a case brought by a group of TV networks and movie studios challenging Cablevision's planned roll-out of a remote-storage version of a DVR. Involved in all stages of the case -- product design, district court litigation, a successful appeal to the Second Circuit, and opposing petitioners' failed cert. petition to the U.S. Supreme Court. IP Law & Business named the case one of its "Top 10 Litigation Wins of 2008." The Cartoon Network LP, LLLP, et al. v. CSC Holdings, Inc., 536 F.3d 121 (2d Cir. 2008).
- Represented the chief scientific officer of a major healthcare company during federal criminal investigation.
- Represented the actress Patty Duke in connection with claim that she was wrongfully terminated from the lead role in the national tour of "Golda's Balcony." Settlement obtained after defeating theatre producer's motion for summary judgment. Anna Pearce v. Manhattan Ensemble Theater, et al. (United States District Court, Southern District of New York).
- Represented Home Shopping Network against three former executives alleged to have stolen corporate opportunities, resulting in favorable settlement for HSN. HSN General Partner, LLC, et al. v. John W. Kirby, Jr., et al. (United States District Court, Middle District of Florida).
- With Cochran, Neufeld & Scheck, represented estate of victim shot and killed by a police officer in federal civil rights action against the officer and the municipal police department, resulting in favorable settlement for victim's estate. Rose Lee Anglin, et al. vs. The City of New Jersey, et al. (United States District Court, District of New Jersey).
- Represented top TV executive in a dispute with employer regarding allegedly inappropriate workplace comments.
- Served as Executive Project Manager of team appointed to monitor the New York Racing Authority (NYRA).
